Estimate basic salary after employment tax and employee pension in Ethiopian birr.

THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED

Your 2025–26 (Ethiopian FY 2018) calculation

8 Jul 2025 – 7 Jul 2026. The fiscal-year label groups twelve monthly salary payments. Employment tax uses the monthly Schedule A table throughout both supported years.

The monthly Schedule A rates enacted in 2025 continue under standing law for this selected fiscal year. The fiscal-year label groups twelve regular monthly payments; employment income tax is assessed monthly, not by applying annual bands. Employee pension does not reduce the employment-tax base. Only the employee’s 7% pension is deducted from cash; the employer’s 11% is separate. Recheck amendments before the next fiscal year.

2025–26 (Ethiopian FY 2018) salary tax slabs

Monthly taxable basic salary. These are monthly bands: the calculator applies them to one month, rounds monthly tax and multiplies by twelve. Employee pension does not reduce taxable salary.

Employee pension and monthly tax

The covered private-sector employee contributes 7% of basic salary to pension under Proclamation 1268/2022. The employer contributes a separate 11%; that employer cost is not deducted from the employee’s cash pay. The supported employee is an Ethiopian national covered by that scheme.

At ETB 20,000 monthly basic salary, employment tax is ETB 4,950: 300 + 600 + 750 + 1,200 + 2,100 across the taxable bands. Employee pension is ETB 1,400, giving ETB 13,650 after the included deductions. Annual totals are twelve times these monthly amounts.

Proclamation 1395/2025 was published on 1 September 2025 and makes these employment-tax provisions applicable to income from 8 July 2025. The Ministry of Justice catalogue has inconsistent English year metadata; the gazetted PDF’s title and effective-date article control. Both supported fiscal years start on or after that date.

Monthly income tax and employee pension each round to cents, half upward, then multiply by twelve. This is an estimate/display convention, not a claim of statutory payroll rounding. Annual salary must divide into twelve cent payments.

Ethiopia salary after tax: common questions

Which years can I calculate?

FY 2026–27 (Ethiopian FY 2019) and FY 2025–26 (Ethiopian FY 2018). Both use the enacted monthly employment-tax schedule effective from 8 July 2025. A fiscal-year selection does not turn the monthly table into an annual assessment. The URL uses the Gregorian starting year.

Does this match my final payslip?

This estimates basic salary less monthly income tax and employee pension. Allowances, overtime, bonuses, benefits, unpaid periods, other deductions and payroll rounding can change your payslip. Annual salary must divide into twelve equal payments to the cent; enter monthly salary otherwise.

Can I calculate bonus or freelance income?

No. This profile supports regular employment salary only. Bonuses, business income, mixed income and partial-year work require a separate calculation.

Is my salary sent anywhere?

The calculation runs in your browser. Salary values remain in memory and are not placed in URLs, storage, requests or analytics. Changing country or year clears the input.
