Japan national tax and the 2025 deductions
Employment income comes from the statutory salary table. Below JPY 6.6 million, rounded table groups can differ from subtracting an unrounded percentage deduction. In 2025, the minimum employment deduction is JPY 650,000. The basic deduction depends on employment income before deducting employee social insurance.
| Employment income up to | Basic deduction |
|---|---|
| JPY 1,320,000 | JPY 950,000 |
| JPY 3,360,000 | JPY 880,000 |
| JPY 4,890,000 | JPY 680,000 |
| JPY 6,550,000 | JPY 630,000 |

Enter the actual annual employee pension, health, care and employment-insurance payments attributable to this salary. These qualifying payments reduce both taxable income and cash pay. We do not assume an insurer, prefecture, standard remuneration band or premium rate. Entering zero means none applies.
Local resident tax is excluded from every result. It usually depends on the previous year’s income and local assessment, so salary after the included deductions is before that tax. This calculator shows annual national tax before withholding credits. It does not compute the balance payable or refundable on a return, and does not apply that balance’s separate JPY 100 truncation.

Salary after tax: common questions
Will this match every monthly payslip?
The result uses an annual estimate divided by twelve. Withholding timing, bonuses, personal reliefs and excluded payroll deductions can change actual pay. Local resident tax is excluded and can reduce pay further.
Can I compare 2026 with 2025?
Choose the income year above. Each year has separate effective dates and sourced rules. The basic and employment deductions changed again in 2026.
